the motherboard houses the CPU and Memory (RAM) and provides support for different peripherals. A motherboard provides connections. Motherboards are cooled by heat sinks. The motherboard is  the centre of the system. The CPU is connected to the motherboard. The socket  has a lever which can be lifted to install the CPU. Once Sucessfully installed  using thermal paste. Memory  only can be  installed if they match the specifications  of motherboard. IDE devices including Disk drives HDDs using SATA cables and connectors. PCI slots fit the GPU or Graphics Processing Unit and PCI expansion cards. Power connectors connect the motherboard to the power supply. The microprocessor connects the  CPU to the motherboard. The Chipset however connects the microprocessor to the motherboard.
